Description:

Nagoya University is a comprehensive, research-intensive university
boasting a distinguished faculty which has received numerous international
awards including four Nobel Prizes, the Fields Medal, and the King Faisal
International Prize. The university is centrally located in Nagoya, the
fourth largest city in Japan, with easy access to Tokyo and Kyoto. The city
has a vibrant cultural life combining elements both modern and traditional,
making it a stimulating and comfortable place to live. 

The Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences (Kyoyo-kyoiku-in), Nagoya
University, Japan, announces one opening for a professor/an associate
professor, term limited, beginning April 1, 2011. This position entails
instruction at the undergraduate level.

1. The ideal applicant should:
(1)  be a native speaker of English (knowledge of the Japanese language at
the conversational level  would be considered an asset).
(2)  have a professional interest in teaching English as a foreign language. 
(3)  have a specialization in some area of English as a foreign or second
language, and English language acquisition.
(4)  have a Ph.D. or equivalent qualification.
(5)  be able to teach English writing and presentation classes for
post-graduate students as well as general English classes for undergraduate
students.
(6)  have had at least one paper published in a highly-regarded, refereed
journal in the applicant's area of specialization.

2. The official status will be a term-limited professorship/a term-limited
associate professorship with a teaching load of approximately eight
90-minute classes per week for undergraduate and post-graduate students,
including general English, English writing, and English presentation. It is
necessary to cooperate with all aspects of the making and marking of the
Foreign Language component of the Nagoya University Entrance Examinations.  

3. Term of Employment: Three years, renewable twice with teaching and
academic evaluation.

4. Remuneration will be approximately five to nine million yen per annum
(including bonuses) before tax depending on age, qualifications and
experience. If the selected applicant is from overseas, the cost of his/her
air fare to Japan will be reimbursed by the university.

5. Applicants are requested to send the documents listed below to the
application address by September 30, 2010.

(1)  Curriculum Vitae (including date of birth).
(2)  Recent photograph.
(3)  List of publications.
(4)  Three published works and their abstracts (photocopies are acceptable).
(5)  Two personal letters of references, written within the last six
months. These should either be included with the application documents,
with each letter in its own sealed envelope, or mailed separately by the
references.
'Undergraduate English Instructor Position' should be written in red on the
application envelope.

6. In addition to the above documents, final candidates will be asked to
provide a health certificate. (Therefore, please be prepared to submit one
at short notice.)

7. Final decision will be made following a personal interview, which may be
conducted by telephone or Skype in the case of overseas applicants.
