Description:

We are looking for one researcher (half-time position) to participate in
the inter-disciplinary 'Collaborative Research Project (CRP)' "The Kalahari
Basin area: a 'Sprachbund' on the verge of extinction" which is part of the
the ESF-Program "EuroBABEL". (see
http://www2.hu-berlin.de/asaf/Afrika/Forschung-EN/Kalahari_Basin.html for a
short project description)
The position involves the following logistic and scientific work:
(1) Development and management of a linguistic data base with possible
linking to non-linguistic data
(2) Collaboration in setting up and administrating web page, data archive
and communication portal of the CRP; coordination and preparation of
inter-CRP activities
(3) Contribution to publication projects
The designing and implementation of comparative data analyses are welcome
and a related Ph.D. project is possible.

Candidates should:
(1) Have at least a master's degree in linguistics
(2) Possess IT-knowledge regarding data bases, web pages etc. or display
willingness and capability of acquiring such knowledge in a short time span
(3) Be prepared for and be interested in interdisciplinary collaboration
(4) Have an interest in evolutionary anthropology and population history

The successful candidate will partake in the fascinating and challenging
EuroBABEL network "Better Analyses Based on Endangered Languages
(EuroBABEL)" (see http://www.esf.org/index.php?id=4632)

While the candidate will be employed by the Humboldt University Berlin
(Institute for Asian and African Studies) the work place might be the Max
Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology Leipzig (see
http://www.eva.mpg.de/english/index.htm).
The position will commence on October 1, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Remuneration will be according to 50% of BAT-O IIa (on the German salary
scale as applied at the HU Berlin).
