Meeting Description:

'Accents' is an annual meeting of researchers and teachers of phonetics,
phonology and EFL interested in the issue of accent in English spoken as a
native or non-native language. The main theme chosen for the 2010 
meeting - Accents in teaching English across time and space - reflects a 
strong teaching strand present in all our meeting. 

The conference is organized by Ewa Waniek-Klimczak 
(ewaklim at uni.lodz.pl), the head of the Department of English Grammar and 
Phonetics (Chair of English Language and Applied Linguistics), University of 
?ód? with the department team: Anna Cichosz, Anna Grali?ska-Brawata 
and Przemys?aw Ostalski. The information on previous conferences can be

Call For Papers

We are pleased to announce the fourth conference on Native and Non-
native Accents of English - 'Accents 2010'. We invite papers exploring the 
main as well as other issues in native and non-native accents of English, 
inlcluding, but not limited to the following:   
-The theory and practice of accents in teaching English in the EFL,  ESL 
and/or EIL context     
-The acquisition and usage of accents in EFL / ESL / EIL
-The sound system in native and non-native speech
-Variability in native and non-native accents of English
-Teaching English pronunciation  
-The phenomenon of 'accented' speech 
-Socio-phonetics 
-Methodology of accent studies

Papers related to the above issues and other aspects of accent studies are
invited. The deadline for abstract submission is September 19, 2010. Please 
send two copies of an abstract of about 400 words (excluding references) 
to accents at uni.lodz.pl, with your name and affiliation written under the title 
in one copy. Papers will typically last about 20 minutes with 10 minutes for
questions. After the process of peer-revision, e-mail notifications will be sent
out by  October 17, 2009.
