Description:

Linguistic Data Consortium at the University of Pennsylvania has an
immediate opening for a full-time programmer analyst to support our rapidly
growing linguistic resource creation projects.

Programmer Analyst (#100328205)

Duties: This position will support LDC's language resource creation
projects by providing programming, research and other technical support in
a rapid prototyping environment, for multiple concurrent projects with
evolving technical requirements. In collaboration with technical managers,
non-technical project staff and external researchers, this candidate will
assess technical requirements for projects, develop plans for satisfying
those needs, and implement technical specifications within stringent
deadlines and budget constraints. 

Tasks may include:

-  Work with project staff and external researchers to assess technical
requirements and devise novel solutions
-  Develop and maintain software including GUI-based linguistic annotation
tools, web applications, data harvesting and processing tools
-  Collect, process and normalize web and other linguistic data
-  Develop and maintain data collection infrastructure
-  Develop and implement quality control approaches for corpus creation
-  Troubleshoot technical problems and provide timely solutions
-  Document technical solutions
-  Perform additional duties as assigned
 
Minimum Qualifications: BS in Computer Science or equivalent, MS preferred;
proven record of success in software development projects; solid
programming skills in at least two of the following programming languages:
Python, Ruby, Perl, Java, C and C++; solid UNIX and Windows skills; solid
shell scripting skills; solid knowledge of Unicode, XML and relational
databases; solid skills in both client and server side web programming:
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP; ability to work independently as well as
within a team; good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audience;
attention to detail; strong sense of personal accountability; ability to
juggle multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and manage time
effectively in deadline driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in GUI and network programming;
education or research experience in linguistics or human language technologies.
