The Society for Pidgin and Creole Linguistics will meet in Pittsburgh, 
Pennsylvania, January 7-8, 2011, in conjunction with:

Abstracts on the phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, lexicon, social aspects of language, history of the discipline, education or any pertinent issue involving pidgin and Creole languages or other contact languages are invited, beginning 1st June, 2010, for anonymous review by a five member panel. 

Call for Papers

1.) General: 

Abstracts for 20-minute papers and for posters on the phonology, morphology,syntax, semantics, lexicon, social aspects of language, history of the discipline, education or any pertinent issue involving pidgin and Creole  languages or other contact languages are invited, beginning 1st June, 2010, for anonymous review by a five member panel.

2.) Conditions:

Any member may submit one single-author abstract. There is not a limit on the number of coauthored abstracts. After an abstract has been submitted, changes of author, affiliation, title, or wording of the abstract, other than those due to typographical errors, will not normally be permitted. Papers must be delivered substantially as indicated in the abstract or represent bona fide developments of the same research. The submitting author must be a member of the Society for Pidgin and Creole Linguistics. 

3.) Word limit: 

An abstract (including examples, if needed) must be no more than 500 words. Abstracts must be no more than one 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch page in length, in type no smaller than 10 point and preferably 12 point; margins should be at least .5 inches on all sides. References may be included on a second page. Abstracts exceeding the word or page length limit or in type smaller than 10 point will be rejected without being evaluated. Please note the word count at the bottom of the abstract. Except for the instructions given here and below, no special form or format is needed for this initial submission of the abstract (as specified in 5 below, a shorter abstract will be requested at a later date from authors of accepted papers).

4.) Title: 

At the top of the abstract, put the title.

5.) Omit your name from abstract: 

Do not put your name on the attached abstract. If you identify yourself in any way on the abstract (e.g. 'In Brown (2001)...I'), the abstract will be rejected without being evaluated. Your name should be only on the abstract submittal form or e-mail message cover page.

6.) Special fonts: 

If your abstract uses any special fonts, please send (alongside Word document) a PDF file, or a paper copy to the address shown below (same deadline), as special fonts may not transmit accurately. Indicate at the bottom of your e-mail if a hardcopy has been mailed. You may choose to send your special fonts file via attachment.

7.) Handbook abstract:

A shorter abstract, intended for publication in the LSA Annual Meeting Handbook, will be requested at a later date from all authors of accepted papers. Specific instructions for the transmittal of this abstract will be included in the acceptance letter.

8.) Sample abstract: 

A sample abstract outline is given towards the bottom of this message.

9.) Submission of abstracts through Easy Abstracts:

Please indicate whether you prefer to present your paper as a poster or as a short presentation (please do not select any of the other presentation options unless you were invited to do so). Select 'Submit'

If and only if you are unable to access Easy Abstracts, abstracts may be  emailed to: rocky.meade at uwimona.edu.jm. If at all possible, please send the abstract as a Microsoft Word attachment. If that option is not available, paste it into an e-mail message. When sending the e-mail submission, please follow this format (use the numbering system given below):
