Meeting Description:

The conference will verse upon aspects of medieval English language and 
literature, encouraging new readings and perspectives on mediaeval 
English texts as well as new approaches and analytical techniques.

SELIM, Spanish Society for Mediaeval English Language and Literature, 
and the local organising committee invite members of the Society and all 
other scholars interested in the field to participate in the 22nd International 
SELIM Conference, which will be hosted by the Department of Modern 
Languages and the Centre for Research in the Applications of Languages 
of the University of La Rioja from September 30th to October 2nd 2010.

Plenary lectures will be delivered by Francisco Cortés (La Laguna), Susan 
Fitzmaurice (Sheffield), Vincent Gillespie (Oxford), Dieter Kastovsky 
(Vienna) and Christian Kay (Glasgow). Plenary speakers have already 
confirmed the titles of their lectures:

- Foundations for the Elaboration of a Lexical-Constructional Database of 
Old English Verbs (Cortés)
- Standard Englishes and the Problem of Historicity (Fitzmaurice)
- Meat, Metaphor, and Mysticism: Cooking the Books in The Doctrine of the 
Heart (Gillespie)
- Old English Word-Formation and Loan Translations (Kastovsky)
- Some Interesting Sounds in the Historical Thesaurus of the Oxford English 
Dictionary (Kay)

The organisers welcome papers dealing with any aspect of mediaeval 
English language and literature and particularly encourage the submission 
of papers that offer new readings or perspectives on mediaeval English 
texts, as well as new approaches and analytical techniques.Scholars 
interested in offering 20-minute papers (followed by a 10-minute 
discussion) must send a 200-250 word abstract in electronic format 
(MSWord or RTF) via e-mail to selim10 at unirioja.es before July 25th 2010. 
Abstracts should include name(s), institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s), 
as well as e-mail address and the technical support required for the 
presentation. Acceptance of proposals will be confirmed as soon as the 
proposal has been peer-reviewed.

A selection of contributions will be edited by the organisers and submitted to 
a major international press. Those delegates who wish to contribute to the 
collective volume must submit an enlarged version of their paper (5,000-
8,000 words) by October 30th 2010.
