We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Dear LINGUIST subscribers,

Does anyone know of scientific reviews of the early-reading program
"Your Baby Can Read"? All I'm able to find in database searches are
not in academic journals. One of my teacher-ed students asked about
this program.

I watched the promotional videos on the company's website and read
some customer reviews. It appears that the program can teach very
young children whole-word recognition, but some parents claim their
child can "sound out" new words that they haven't seen before. I'm
interested in whether any language-acquisition or literacy experts have
reviewed this program and/or tested children who have done it for
alphabetic literacy.

Thank you so much,
