Meeting Description: 

The Applied Linguistics Associations of Australia (ALAA) and New Zealand (ALANZ) are pleased to announce their second combined conference:

Applied Linguistics as a Meeting Place
30 November - 2 December 2011
Hosted by the University of Canberra and the Australian National University

The conference will focus on intersections between Applied Linguistics and other disciplines or areas of practice. The conference strands include Applied Linguistics and: 

- Education
- Assessment and Testing (organised by the Association for Language Testing and Assessment of Australia and New Zealand, ALTAANZ)
- Language Development
- Indigenous Issues
- Society
- The Law
- The Arts

The conference will highlight Australia's beautiful national capital as an intellectual, cultural, political and policy-development centre.

Plenary speakers include:

Diana Eades (Australia)
Janet Holmes (New Zealand)
Merrill Swain (Canada)

The conference will be preceded by the first ALAA-ALANZ Postgraduate Student Workshop (29 November 2011).

The conference will include a joint day (2 December) with the annual Australian Linguistic Society (ALS) conference (2-4 December 2011).
