Description:

The Research Centre for Cantonese of the Department of Chinese Language and
Literature at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is pleased to invite
applications for a PhD studentship in Chinese Language and Literature for up to
three years on a research project on syntax and semantics of functional
categories in Cantonese and other Chinese dialects, focusing on the postverbal
particles and their preverbal counterparts. 

The interested candidate should hold a master degree in linguistics or Chinese
language with specialization in linguistics. Some background in theoretical
approaches to syntax and/or semantics is essential; a strong background is
preferred. An excellent command of written and spoken Chinese and English is
essential, and a native or near-native knowledge of Cantonese would also be an
asset.
