Teachers' Roles in Second Language Learning: Classroom Applications of
Sociocultural Theory
(A volume series of Research in Second Language Learning by Information Age
Publishing, 2011)

The purposes of the book are to provide teachers with practical
applications of sociocultural theory (Vygotsky, 1978, 1981, 1986) and help
them understand their roles in teaching language learners.

The volume editors encourage proposals for manuscripts that are based on
empirical studies in K-12 classroom settings. The studies need to be
grounded in sociocultural perspectives that focus on the teachers' roles
for promoting and mediating students' learning linguistically, culturally,
and socially.

The proposals for manuscript should address one of these following themes:
- Teachers' Roles from Linguistic Perspectives: Focusing on how teachers
mediate the use of language as a semiotic tool.
- Teachers' Roles from Cultural Perspectives: Focusing on how teachers'
funds of cultural knowledge affect students' second language learning and
how teachers use students' cultural experiences for their teaching practices.
- Teachers' Roles from Social Perspectives: Focusing on how teachers
promote or inhibit students' interaction with their classmates.

Proposals should be no more than 500 words in length, should be submitted
in .doc or .pdf form only, and should include the following:
- The proposed manuscript title
- Description of the topic of your proposed manuscript and rationale for
publication
- Description of the empirical research that informs your proposed article
- Discussion of the methods used to conduct your study and analyze your results
- Discussion of how this proposed article will contribute to the field of
teacher education on second language learning
- The proposed manuscript length
- Author information including name, institutional affiliation, email,
phone and mailing address

Chapter Proposal Due: November 15, 2010
Full Chapters Due: April 1, 2011

All submitted full chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review
basis. Inquiries and submissions should be forwarded electronically to each
of the editors:
