Description:

The Writing Program at the University of Rochester invites applications for
a 3-year-renewable ESOL Director position with specialization in ESOL, to
begin Fall 2011. A terminal degree (M.A., M.A.T., or Ph.D.) in TESOL,
Education, Applied Linguistics, Functional Linguistics, Writing Studies,
Composition/Rhetoric or related field is required. ABDs will be considered.
We seek candidates with experience in program administration, an
established primary commitment to teaching, as well as an interest in
research. Experience working with students in scientific disciplines is a
plus. Eleven-month contract.

Position responsibilities include working under the direction of the
College Writing Program to administrate the undergraduate ESOL Program,
including such activities as

-  teaching ESOL Speaking & Listening and Reading & Writing courses and/or
first-year composition in our interdisciplinary, theme-based writing
program (2/2 load);
-  collaborating with the Writing Program to develop/strengthen the ESOL
curriculum;
-  designing and facilitating ESOL workshops for students, writing instructors,
tutors, and faculty in the disciplines;
-  working with faculty and staff across the college to address the needs
of undergraduate ESOL students;
-  conducting assessments for placement into ESOL courses and for course
and program evaluation;
-  hiring assessment raters and/or instructors; and, more generally,
-  helping us to strengthen the ESOL Program.
