Description:

Assistant Professor in Syntax

Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant Professor in Syntax
in the School of Humanities (Linguistics), from August 1, 2011 or as soon
as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the
possibility of renewal.

Applicants are expected to show evidence of a strong record of teaching and
research in syntax, with secondary specializations in morphology or
semantics. Candidates are expected to teach several of the following
courses offered in the department: Syntactic theory, Lexical-functional
grammar, Introduction to morphology, Semantics, and Grammar: theories and
applications. We particularly welcome candidates with a strong interest in
the comparative studies of African and East Asian languages. Information

Annual salary will be in the range of HK$484,980 - 749,520 (approximately
US$1 = HK$ 7.8) (subject to review from time to time at the entire
discretion of the University). A highly competitive salary commensurate
with qualifications and experience will be offered. The appointment will
attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement
benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and
medical/dental benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. 
At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
