University or Organization: Centre for General Linguistics (ZAS)
Job Location: Berlin, Germany
Web Address: http://www.zas.gwz-berlin.de/index.php?id=2&L=1
Job Rank: PhD position

Specialty Areas: Phonetics; Phonology

Description:

The phonetics-phonology project group (PB1) at the Centre for General
Linguistics (ZAS) in Berlin invites applicants for a three-year PhD
position, available from January 15, 2011 (no extension possible).

The successful candidate will join the project 'Boundary-related phenomena
in speech' supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and
Research. The project focuses on three broad research topics: the relation
of phonetics-phonology to typology, socio-phonetics, and the relation
between phonetics, cognition and speech motor control. (See project website
URL above for details.) The exact topic of the applicant's PhD should be
related to the PB1 project theme and worked out in cooperation with project
researchers.

The ideal candidate should be able to work both autonomously and in a team.
Previous training in phonetics and phonology is required. Candidates who
also have experience in experimental design and methodology, statistics
and/or PRAAT are particularly invited to apply. Fluency in both German and
English is not mandatory but a great advantage.

Please send your letter of application, a current CV and if available, a
research proposal by email to Marzena Zygis at the email address below.
