Description:

The International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Language Sciences
is an initiative of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and two
research institutes at Radboud University Nijmegen, the Donders Institute
for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour and the Centre for Language Studies. The
research school offers an unrivalled training and research environment in
the language sciences, allowing interdisciplinary work of the highest standard.

The IMPRS for Language Sciences is advertising 3 doctoral fellowships in
any field contributing to the language sciences, for example, cognitive
neuroscience of language, psycholinguistics or linguistics.

The PhD fellowships are, in the normal case, 3 years in length. Fellowship
recipients will receive a monthly salary sufficient to cover living costs
in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

Applicants must have a Masters degree (or expect to complete the degree
before September 2011) in a relevant field. The working language of the
research school is English.

Applications must be prepared according to the following guidelines or will
not be considered. Your application should be emailed as one PDF document
that includes the following information:

Curriculum vitae.
Include:
-  Relevant work and educational background.
-  Details about your completed or expected Masters degree, including
supervisors, date of completion, title of thesis and a brief description of
your topic, and any grades you received for relevant coursework.
-  Details about your technical skillset, for example, this may include
programming, statistics, mathematical knowledge, experimental
design/methods, neuroimaging, practical phonetics, corpus methods,
fieldwork, et cetera.

Personal statement of interest. No more than half a page. Include:
-  Highlights of your background and career aspirations.
-  Reasons for special interest in the IMPRS for Language Sciences.

Tentative research proposal. No more than one page. Include:
-  A sketch of your proposed PhD research project that gives a basic
overview of your proposed research and the methods you hope to employ.
Note, the details of the final research project would be decided upon in
consultation with supervisors - here we would like to see how well you can
frame a research question and test a hypothesis. 
-  Names of potential supervisors from any of the three IMPRS partner
institutes. You can find out about researchers' work from the partner
institute websites (see below for links). You do not need to contact
potential supervisors at this time.

References. Provide:
-  Names, titles and email contact details of two academic referees.

Proof of English-language proficiency if not a native English speaker.
Provide: 
-  Electronic copy/scan of TOEFL/Cambridge/IELTS certificate. This may be
submitted after the main application deadline if necessary.

The final day for applications is Thursday, 6 January 2011. Applications
received after this date will not be considered.
