Meeting Description:

In the fields of Linguistics and Language Education Policies increased attention is being paid to assessment procedures and to the role of linguistic and communicative competence in the learning/teaching process. This attention has been focused on both assessment procedures within the teaching process, such as progress assessment (assessment for learning), and assessment systems for grading or certification purposes (assessment of learning). An example is the role of language as an instrument of claiming and exercising the rights to obtain citizenship and of the function of Language Testing in that context. The underlying theme of the EALTA 2011 Conference addresses such political concerns by analyzing and problematizing the concept of ethics in Language Testing & Assessment. This may be approached by focusing on different types of research, as well as on issues of implementation and use - and on responsibility towards, and consequences for, individuals and society.

Call for Papers:

We invite proposals concerning the principles of transparency, responsibility and quality, such as respect for the students/candidates, impartiality, validity, reliability and effectiveness of methods and instruments deemed necessary for ethical actions in the field of Language Testing and Assessment. We welcome proposals discussing the challenges met in relation to different aspects of testing and assessment, including:

-language management and policies
-educational policies
-classroom assessment
-teacher training
-test development
-validation procedures
-testing/assessment research
