Meeting Description:

Convenor
Prof. Marina Dossena, Università degli Studi di Bergamo, Italy
(http://www.unibg.it/dati/persone/246/2148-mio-cv-sito%20unibg.pdf)

Scope of session
Two very successful conferences on English Historical Dialectology (EHD)
have been held at the University of Bergamo in 2003 and 2007 (see
programmes at http://dinamico2.unibg.it/anglistica/slin/ehd1-home.html and
www.unibg.it/struttura/struttura.asp?cerca=2icehd_intro; see also
Dossena/Lass 2004 and 2009). For the next planned meeting in 2011 it
seems desirable that the focused discussion on individual projects should
occur within the framework of this bigger international event with a longer
scientific tradition. In this way participants will have the opportunity to
present findings to and get feedback from a wider range of delegates.

Call For Papers

Papers are expected to concentrate on methodological issues, data and
scientific research questions centred on English and European Dialectology
in a historical perspective - ranging from the 11th to the 19th century.
Special attention to sociolinguistic variation in time is welcome. The
publication of the proceedings is envisaged in an independent volume.

Estimated number of papers
The workshop is expected to take max. three half-day sessions. Each
presentation should take up to 20 minutes, followed by a 10-minute
discussion.

Abstracts (ca. 300 words excluding references) should be e-mailed as both
Word and PDF files to marina.dossena at unibg.it not later than 30
November 2011.

Arrangements for abstract review
Abstracts will be refereed anonymously: notification of acceptance is
expected within three-four weeks after the submission deadline. Former
delegates at EHD conferences, in addition to members of the EHD scientific
committee, will be invited to participate in the reviewing process.
