The Department of English and General Linguistics at University of Lodz 
announces the Second International Conference on Philosophy of 
Language and Linguistics (PhiLang2011).
 
The following scholars have already accepted our invitation to address the 
conference as plenary speakers:
 
Professor Aleksy Awdiejew (Jagiellonian University, Cracow)
Philosophy of Language Communication 
 
Professor Katarzyna Jaszczolt (University of Cambridge) 
Minimalism and Contextualism about De Se Belief Ascription.
 
Professor Ruth Kempson (King's College London)
Dynamic Syntax: Natural Languages as Mechanisms for Interpretation 
Construction.

Professor Alex Miller (University of Birmingham)
Judgement-Dependence, Tacit Knowledge and Linguistic Understanding.
 
Professor Stefano Predelli (University of Nottingham)
Non Truth-Conditional Meaning and Metalinguistic Comments: The Case of 
Giorgione.

The conference fee is 150 EUR (100 for doctoral students), and 300PLN 
(150 for doctoral students) for participants from Poland. It covers the cost of 
participation, conference materials and conference dinner.

Accommodation will be provided at the University Conference Center, Lodz, 
Kopcinskiego 16/18 (www.csk.uni.lodz.pl). Single and double rooms are 
available. The cost of a single room per night is 140 PLN, double 210, PLN, 
breakfast is included in the price.

Call for Papers

The principal aim of our Conference is to bring together philosophers, 
logicians and linguists; we would like the papers to address the following 
issues (the list is not exhaustive):
 
-Philosophy of language and linguistics: diverging or converging?
-Philosophical, logical and linguistic approaches to semantics and 
pragmatics
-Philosophical, logical and linguistic approaches to modality
-Ontological status of linguistic entities
-Polish contribution to the development of the philosophy of language


Abstracts of papers, in MS Word format, of max. 300 words (followed by 5-7 
key terms), should be forwarded by e-mail to: philang2011 at uni.lodz.pl 
 
Deadline for submission is 31 December 2010. Presentations should last 
maximum 30 minutes (including discussion and questions). Notification of 
acceptance will be sent by 1 March 2011.

A volume of selected conference proceedings will be published with an 
international publisher; we also plan two thematic volumes of linguistic 
journals.
