Description:

The Center for Language and Cognition Groningen announces a four-year
Postdoc position in generative linguistics (1.0 fte). 

This job is part of a larger research project called "Incomplete
Parenthesis", funded by the European Research Council. The general program
investigates the relation between ellipsis phenomena and parenthesis from a
theoretical and cross-linguistic perspective. The principal investigator is
Dr. Mark de Vries. Furthermore, there are two Postdocs (1 vacancy), two PhD
students (vacancies), supporting staff, and there is an international board
of advisors. Each researcher will carry out his or her own sub-project, as
well as contribute to the overall aims. 

The provisional title of the relevant Postdoc project is: "Ellipsis and
fragmentation in afterthoughts and peripheral adverbial clauses". The

Requirements
-  A PhD degree in theoretical linguistics or a related field;
-  Commitment to the general project; willingness to cooperate;
-  Affinity with generative syntax, and a broad linguistic interest,
including typology and information structure;
-  Full proficiency in English; motivation to learn Dutch (if applicable).

Conditions of employment
Starting salary from EUR 3088,- gross per month. An 8% holiday allowance
per annum and an end of the year bonus (8,3%) for a full-time position.  
Starting date: 1 Feb. 2011
Duration of the contract: 4 years
Status: employee 
Appointment: 1.0 fte (including a 0.2 fte teaching load)
The position requires residence in Groningen, 38 hours/week research and
teaching.

Affiliation: the candidates will be affiliated with the 'Syntax and
Semantics' group of the Center for Language and Cognition Groningen (CLCG)
at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen. This institute
embraces all the Linguistics research in the faculty.
