The Department of Languages and Linguistics at the University of Texas at
El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor
of Hispanic Linguistics with an anticipated appointment date in Fall 2011.

The Department of Languages and Linguistics offers the B.A. in linguistics,
Spanish, and French, as well as the M.A. in linguistics and Spanish. The
Ph.D. in psychology with a concentration in language acquisition and
bilingualism is offered by an interdisciplinary faculty from the
departments of Psychology and Languages and Linguistics. Additionally, the
linguistics faculty operates a laboratory dedicated to empirical research
in areas such as language acquisition, bilingualism, language variation,
and corpus linguistics. El Paso offers excellent opportunities for
investigating these topics because it is located in the largest urban
center on the US-Mexico border, whose total population of nearly two
million manifests extensive language contact, bilingualism, and variation.
UTEP is recognized as a national model in demonstrating that a university
with a fundamental commitment to access and diversity can also achieve high
levels of excellence in academic programs and research. For more

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Linguistics with specialization in
Hispanic Linguistics, significant preparation in theoretical linguistics,
and scholarly activity that combines theory with empirically grounded
investigation in areas such as acquisition/bilingualism and/or variation.
The successful candidate will show a strong commitment to research and
promise of scholarly achievement as well as a commitment to teaching, Ph.D.
in hand by August 2011.

Preferred Qualifications: Experimental/quantitative skills are a
significant plus.
