The School of Languages, Cultures & Linguistics at the University of
Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand) invites applications for the
position of Associate Professor/Professor in Linguistics, commencing 1st
July 2011. Applicants must possess a PhD qualification in Linguistics. 

The successful applicant will teach into the undergraduate and
post-graduate programmes, in addition to providing mentoring and
supervision to Masters and Ph.D. students. Proven experience and ability in
teaching phonology is essential. The ability to teach in other areas,
particularly in historical linguistics, may be advantageous. 

The successful applicant will maintain a high quality output in research
and publications, consistent with the level of appointment, and will
contribute to academic leadership in the linguistics community at
Canterbury. Research opportunities will include participation in
wide-ranging interdisciplinary research in the recently-established New
Zealand Institute of Language, Brain, and Behaviour at the University of
Canterbury, with which the Linguistics Programme is closely associated.
Applicants will be expected to show evidence of academic leadership and a
track record of obtaining external research funding.
