Call for Proposals for development of a Kazakh Elementary Textbook

The Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region (CeLCAR) is calling
for proposals for experienced Kazakh language pedagogs to develop a
sixteen-unit elementary Kazakh language textbook, suitable for use in both
American higher education settings and for self-study.

Successful proposals will begin on January 15, 2011, and will produce a
finished and tested product to be considered for publication by Georgetown
University Press. CeLCAR will provide the developers with compensation in
line with qualifications and as benchmarks are met. Successful applicants
will also be expected to participate as instructors in IU's well-known 8
weeks intensive summer program, and participate in pre- and post-session
workshops.

Developers must be self-motivated and able to meet strict project deadlines
with minimal supervision. They will also receive assistance from CeLCAR's
staff in establishing scope and sequence, printing, lay-out, preparing
audio-visual materials for inclusion in the textbook, and English editing
and polishing.

Applicants must be native speakers of Kazakhstan Kazakh with linguistic or
pedagogical training, have experience teaching Kazakh as a second language
(preferably in the United States or other English-speaking environment),
and TOEFL scores of 500 or equivalent. Proposals should include: a
curriculum vita, a description of the proposed textbook including design
principles and rationale, a draft scope and sequence for the first four
units, and sample unit on any topic appropriate for an introductory level
course.

Please send your proposal by December 10, 2010, to the address below, or as
PDF or Word format to celcar at indiana.edu
