Tenure Track Position in Language Documentation
The University of Texas at Arlington

The Department of Linguistics and TESOL at The University of Texas at
Arlington invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of
Assistant Professor in Language Documentation, to begin in fall 2011.
Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in linguistics, with evidence of
success and continued promise in publishing. Potential hires with a
successful track record in external grants are of particular interest. ABD
candidates will be considered. The ideal candidate is engaged in ongoing
community-driven fieldwork with a non-Indo-European language. In addition,
the ideal candidate will also have a specialization in one of the core
theoretical areas of our department: syntax, semantics, pragmatics or
phonology. Applicants should consider how their training and theoretical
approaches are consistent with existing faculty in their core area, since
they will share responsibility for grad courses and dissertation direction
in the department.

We are a growing department, with new hires, two new research labs, and a
new B.A. in linguistics. We offer a PhD in linguistics and MA degrees in
both linguistics and TESOL. The University of Texas at Arlington is
aggressively pursuing Tier One status, seeking to increase doctoral
production, undergraduate graduation and retention rates, and extramural
funding. The University is highly diverse in its student demographics, and
is a doctoral-granting, research-intensive public institution of over
30,000 students in the dynamic Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, which has a
wide variety of cultural, recreational, and entertainment offerings.

fieldwork experience and training, a current curriculum vitae, two writing
samples, and three current letters of reference from those most familiar
with the applicant's work, including at least one member of the
