Call Deadline: 10-Oct-2010

Meeting Description:

Multiple factors influence the production and perception of language; this
can be easily observed, for instance, in speaking or sign language. An
important role is played by communicative context: the availability of
different types of information, both in quantitative and qualitative terms, a
more or less controlled context, the speaker/listener's perception of the
communicative situation in which they act and an objective change in the
communicative situation are some major causes of variation in language
use, with clear effects on the production and perception of the message.

Communicative context determines many linguistic features, such as the
degree of coarticulation between language units or rhythm and melody.
Therefore this year's conference will focus on the relationship between
variability and communicative context as it may be observed in spoken
natural language, sign language or in speech production and recognition
software applications.

Presentations dealing with topics directly related to the conference theme or
to voice sciences in general are particularly welcome. There will also be a
session for non-thematic papers. A special session will be reserved to
graduate, PhD students, and junior researchers whose proposals are
warmly encouraged.

Call For Papers

Participants interested in presenting their work should submit an abstract of
at least 5000 characters (including spaces) and not more than 7500
characters (including spaces). The abstracts will be evaluated anonymously
by the scientific committee. Abstracts may be submitted online in *.doc and
*.pdf formats by accessing the conference website. The official language of
the conference is Italian, but abstracts and presentations in English are also
welcome.
