Meeting Description:

The Italian section of the Department of Foreign languages at the
University of Bergen, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy and the
Italian Institute of Culture in Norway, is pleased to announce the
international Conference Italy and Media, to be held at the Faculty of
Humanities on November 18 -19, 2011.

Media, through different languages, play a significant role in education,
information and entertainment. Such languages are creative, fascinating and
influence people´s way of thinking and behaving, but can also be
reiterative and banal, and have a dangerous 'seductive' power towards those
people who don't possess skills enough to understand their traps.

The study of media in Italy is extremely interesting and challenging,
considering also links among political power, media and communication. The
2 days long Conference aims at giving a platform to interact and discuss
the role of language in the Italian mass media nowadays, involving scholars
from different disciplines.

Call for Papers:

Sub-themes:

- Italian language and media
- Politics in mass media
- The role of social-networks
- The power of advertising
- The power of TV
- Media, school and education

Authors are invited to submit a max 400 word abstract (in Italian or
English, to marco.gargiulo at if.uib.no) with name(s) of author(s), title of
paper, affiliation, e-mail contact information.Abstracts are invited for
20-minute talks (plus 10 minutes for discussion).

Deadline: July 10, 2011.
Conference fees: € 50 (students € 30)

501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple
administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company
operates such a program.
