Description:

We are seeking a computational linguist with proficiency in Mandarin 
Chinese to perform research related to a natural language processing 
system under development. Primary responsibilities will include 
researching available tokenizers for Mandarin Chinese and producing a 
report that compares different tokenizers, describes their pros and cons 
and makes recommendations on choosing the right tokenizer for the NLP 
system under development. 

Qualified candidates must be native or near-native speakers of Mandarin 
Chinese, be familiar with both Simplified and Traditional writing systems 
and must demonstrate excellent communication skills in English. They 
should also have an academic or professional background in computational 
linguistics. The work hours will be variable, in the range of 15-20 
hours/week, over 3-4 weeks, for a total of 60 hours between late April and 
end of May of 2011. 

We are willing to accommodate many unusual scheduling and 
telecommuting requirements. Our client is based in the Washington DC 
area, (Eastern Time zone), so although there is no geographic requirement 
regarding remote work location, all linguistic consultants will be expected 
to be timely in their communication and regularly available for some email 
or phone correspondence during the client's regular business hours 
(9h00-17h00 EST). 

US residents must have any-employer US work authorization valid for the 
next 12 months. Unfortunately, we cannot sponsor employment visas. 

We offer a competitive, professional hourly rate, paid as 1099 self-
employment income.
