Description:

The Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese at the University of 
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking qualified applicants to coordinate 
and teach in the Spanish language program and supervise teaching 
assistants in its large and well-established technologically enhanced 
Spanish Basic Language Program.

Minimum qualifications include an M.A. in Spanish with a background in 
second language acquisition. Near native or native ability in Spanish along 
with experience in technology based language instruction. At least one 
year of supervisory experience and 3 years of teaching in a university 
setting preferred. 

Duties include the following: (1) teach the equivalent of five undergraduate 
courses per year in the basic language program depending on program 
needs, (2) coordinate one of the basic language courses: Create syllabi, 
choose textbooks, make exams, maintain on-line component of the 
course, (3) Organize and maintain material on online Course Management 
System for the Spanish basic language program. Create discussion boards, 
select e-book activities and establish deadlines, monitor student progress, 
and maintain online grade book, (4) supervise the group of Graduate 
Teaching Assistants assigned to that course.

The Coordinator will report to and work with Director of Introductory 
Spanish. Responsibilities include writing and administering exams, 
developing course curriculum/syllabus, maintaining on-line course 
management system, participate in orientation and ongoing training of 
teaching assistants, contributing to any course/program innovation and 
other departmental duties as assigned.

This is a full-time, 9-month appointment with additional summer service 
possible. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Target 
starting date is August 16, 2011.
