Abstract:

Beruriñay é o nome de uma brincadeira infantil indígena do Rio Negro, 
Amazonas, Brasil e foi escolhido para nome da publicação como uma 
homenagem às crianças da região mais plurilíngüe do Brasil. O livro é um 
trabalho coletivo dos professores da etnia Desano, e se constitui num 
método de ensino da língua para as crianças, que em sua maioria já não 
dominam a língua, mas que falam o Tukano, língua da mesma família que se 
tornou dominante na região. É pensado para ser usado como material de 
apoio por professores das escolas Desano, e tem o intuito de ajudar a 
revitalização da língua.

Está constituído por 15 lições, cada uma delas apresentando em uma 
situação comunicacional corriqueira nas aldeias dos rios Papuri e Tiquié, 
tradicional território Desano. As diferentes lições incluem a variação 
linguística própria da língua falada por este povo, organizado em cinco clãs 
hierárquicos, cada um dele falante de uma variedade linguística levemente 
diferente.

Para além do público inicial para o qual foi concebido, é um livro de interesse 
para linguistas, etnólogos, antropólogos, sociólogos e todos aqueles que têm 
a curiosidade de saber mais sobre o cotidiano e a cultura deste povo filho da 
Cobra Grande.
