Meeting Description:

The 1st International Seminar on Language Acquisition (I Seminário Internacional de Aquisição da Linguagem) will be held from November 16 to 18, 2011, at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. 

The Seminar touches on a variety of topics in the area of acquisition, including the acquisition of native and foreign languages, linguistic awareness and literacy, bilingualism, language reorganization in aphasics, LIBRAS, Portuguese as an Additional Language (PAL) and foreign language reading.

All participants must register on the event website by November 8, 2011. After this date, registrations can only be done at the Events Department on the main campus of PUCRS, building 40, room 201. Call for Papers:

The I SIAL Organizing Committee would like to inform that the deadline for abstract submissions has been extended to August 23, 2011.

Abstracts submitted may be up to 400 words (not counting references), and may be written in Portuguese or English. Proposals must be sent to the email sial.pucrs at gmail.com by August 23. Abstracts must be anonymous, not including any kind of information that may identify the author of the work. The three main themes for presentations are: L1 Acquisition and Teaching; L2 Acquisition and Teaching; and Bilingualism and Libras/Sign Language. 

Papers and presentations will be accepted in English and Portuguese.

The body of the email must contain:

1. Author(s) name(s)
2. Affiliation
3. Author(s) email(s)
4. Abstract title
5. Main theme of the abstract

Important Dates:

Extended deadline for abstract submissions: August 23, 2011
Notification of accepted abstracts: August 31, 2011
Date of the event: November 16 to 18, 2011
