Description:

At the Department of German Language and Linguistics a PhD Position (EGr. 13
TV-L HU, 50%) is available for 2 years beginning immediately in the project
'Syntactic and pragmatic prominence of experiencers in cross-linguistic
perspective', funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The project investigates the impact of semantic and pragmatic factors on
argument structure. Comparative experimental studies are conducted in several
languages including German, Chinese, Turkish, Korean, and Modern Greek.

We invite applications for a half-time position (EGr. 13 TV-L HU, 50%, according
to the German public service pay scale), to be filled by a doctoral student. The
position has an initial term for two years, with the possibility of extension on
the basis of successful project prolongation. The researcher is expected to
collaborate in the development of empirical methods (observational and
experimental) for the cross-linguistic study of argument structure and to
conduct empirical research in the languages of his/her expertise. He/she is
expected to present the results of his/her work in scientific conferences and to
publish the findings of the empirical research in linguistic journals.

The ideal candidate should have prior experience in experimental methods in
linguistics ideally related to syntactic and/or semantic research questions.
Applicants need to have a master's degree or equivalent in linguistics or a
closely related field. The preparation of a PhD-dissertation on a topic related
to the project is possible. Good command of English is required, knowledge of
German is an advantage.

Candidates are requested to send their applications (cover letter describing
research interests and CV) to the address given below. E-mail applications using
pdf-documents are welcome.
