The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to engage in non-discriminatory
hiring practices. We urge employers not to discriminate on the grounds of race,
ethnicity, nationality, disability, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
However, we have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Job Rank: Researcher

Specialty Areas: Linguistic Theories; Semantics; Syntax

Required Language(s): German (deu)

Description:

The Department of German Studies at the University of Goettingen, Germany,
has an opening for a

doctoral position (part-time appointment, 65% TV-L E13)

in grammatical theory with a focus on the constraint-based syntactic and
semantic analysis of relative clause constructions.

The position is part of the project 'Constraintbasierte Analyse
restriktiver Relativsätze im Englischen und Deutschen' ('Constraint-based
analysis of restrictive relative clauses in English and German'). The
project belongs to the research group 'Relativsätze' ('Relative clauses')
funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is a collaborative
project of the Universities of Frankfurt and Goettingen (project leaders:
Prof. Dr. Anke Holler and Prof. Dr. Gert Webelhuth). The position starts on
1 October 2011 (or later). The position is limited initially to three
years. If evaluated positively the project can be extended for three more
years.

We welcome applications of candidates holding a Master's degree (or
equivalent) in German language studies, linguistics or a related field. We
expect a successful candidate to have a solid background in theoretical
grammar (HPSG or other framework) and the grammar of German, and a genuine
interest in the theoretical analysis of empirical results. Previous
experience with corpus research methods and/or psycholinguistic
experimental methods will be an advantage.

The salary and social benefits are determined by the German civil servants
standard (Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L, Tarifgebiet West, corresponding to an
initial salary of 2600 EUR/month (pre-tax)).

The University of Goettingen is an equal opportunity employer. Women are
therefore particularly encouraged to apply. Disabled applicants with
equivalent qualifications will be treated preferentially.

Applications should include a CV, an outline of research experience, a list
of publications and (links to) a sample of published works, as well as
names and addresses of references.

Applications received by 30 August 2011 will receive full consideration,
though we will accept applications even after interviews have started until
the position has been filled. Please submit your application by mail or by
email to the address or email address below.
