A Young Researchers Conference on 'Language/Music'
3 March 2012

We have the pleasure to invite M.A. and PhD students to participate in the conference organized by the 'Texts & Codes' student society at the Institute of English Studies, University of  Lodz, Poland.

Depending on the number of prospective participants, the conference may be extended to two days (3-4 March 2012).  

There is no conference fee.       

The venue for the conference will be the Institute of English Studies in Lodz, al. Kosciuszki 65. We can advise you on finding accommodation.

Call for Papers:

We invite papers concerning (but not limited to) the following research areas: 

- Music and language as similar?/different? codes 
- The issue of musical meaning 
- The interaction of music and song lyrics - the similarity of structural patterning, style, emotional tone etc.  
- Metaphor, metonymy, and other aspects of imagery in music and lyrics 

We invite both papers of more general scope and ones that focus narrowly on particular musical genres, songs, or performance.  

Please send an abstract of 200-300 words to textscodes at gmail.com by 11 February 2012 at the latest. 
 
The conference language is English. The presentation time is 20 minutes, plus 10 minutes for discussion. A selection of the papers (positively reviewed as fulfilling academic criteria) may be accepted for publication.
