Specialty Areas: French Linguistics

Required Language(s): French (fra)

Description:

The Faculty of Arts & Philosophy invites applications for the full-time
position of Professor in the rank of Lecturer (Tenure Track system) or
Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics (starting date: 1 October
2011). Responsibilities will include academic teaching, research and
service in the field of French Linguistics.

Candidate's Profile
- Candidates hold a PhD, with a doctoral thesis in the field of French
Linguistics.
- Candidates are required to have at least two years of postdoctoral
experience on October 1, 2011.
- Candidates are required to have research experience in the field of
Modern French Linguistics (syntax, semantics or pragmatics), as is evident
from contributions to international conferences and publications in books
and/or peer-reviewed journals.
- Candidates are required to have an excellent knowledge of French (native
or near-native).
- Candidates are required to possess the necessary didactic,
organizational and communicative skills for teaching in an academic context;
- Demonstrated international mobility, amongst others through

Candidates are requested to submit:
- an outline (max. 1500 words) explaining their views on research,
teaching and service in relation to this vacancy;
- the required transcripts (copies of degrees).

Selection procedure:
1. Candidates will be short-listed on the basis of their curriculum vitae,
list of publications, and the outline;
2. Short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview and required
to present a micro-class, on the basis of which the final selection will be
made.

Candidates are required to show their willingness to learn Dutch (insofar
as they do not speak this language on the day of application).

The appointment is in the rank of Lecturer (docent) or Senior Lecturer
(hoofddocent). A full-time position in the rank of Lecturer is a tenure
track appointment for a period of five years, at the end of which,
following an evaluation, a tenure decision will be taken. A full-time
position in the rank of Senior Lecturer is in principle a tenured
appointment. In the case of a first appointment as professor ("ZAP" or
"Zelfstandig Academisch Personeel"), in the rank of Lecturer or Senior
Lecturer, however, the Board of Governors of Ghent University reserves the
right to grant a temporary, tenure track appointment for a maximum period
of three years, at the end of which, following an evaluation, a tenure
decision will be taken.
