Meeting Description:

The 13th Symposium on Cochlear Implants in Children will be held July 14-16, 2011 at the Sheraton Towers in Chicago.  The Children's Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and the Northwestern University Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery are hosting this conference. 

The objective of this symposium is to provide an environment for dissemination and discussion of research relevant to pediatric cochlear implantation, including speech and language development in infants and children with cochlear implants. The exchange of information made possible by the symposium will improve current patient care and provide future directions for research.

Call for Papers:

Deadline: March 1, 2011

For the first time we are introducing a Mentored Doctoral Student Poster Session in this symposium series.  Presenters in this session must be doctoral students (e.g., MD, PhD, AuD), residents or postdoctoral fellows in a field related to cochlear implantation. In addition to their abstract, applicants for the Mentored Poster Session must submit a letter describing their research interests and career plans, and a letter of recommendation from their mentor. Mentored Doctoral Student awardees will be chosen by the Program Committee based on scientific merit of the study and the applicants' research experience and potential.  Mentored Doctoral Student awardees may receive partial funding to cover registration, hotel and travel costs. Geographic diversity and minority representation will be taken into account when determining award recipients. A NIDCD program staff official will be invited to discuss the NIH grant process during a lunch meeting with mentored student presenters. A second lunch for students with an experienced, grant-funded senior investigator will also be arranged to increase mentoring opportunities.
