Meeting Description: 

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Moldova State 
University proudly announces that Eugen Co?eriu 11th International 
Conference in Language Sciences (ICLS) will take place in Chisinau, the 
Republic of Moldova, in the period May 12-14, 2011.The conference will 
mark the 90th birthday anniversary of the late Romanian linguist Eugen 
Coseriu, under the title: 'Norm - System - Usage: Modern Codimensioning'. 

The Conference will be divided per sessions, as follows - 

Section: Sign Symbol, Word
Signs and their typology. Natural and conventional signs. Sign and the 
reality. Seme, sememe and lexeme. Word identity and its morpho-syntactic 
character. Linguistic sign and Code. Code, homogeneity, heterogeneity. 
The arbitrary and code motivation. Systemic signification, locutor's 
signification. Rhetoric meaning. The norm and transgression of norm. 
Ilocutory signs, per-locutory signs. Lexical semantics. Vocabulary rendering 
emotions. Semantic isotopy, isotopy of message. Isotopic variations. 
Meaning and signification, semantic value. Signification and communication. 
Structure and content in semiotic systems. Relationship among various 
semiotic systems. Interactive videography and electronic games.  Visual 
semiotics. Word symbolism. Linguistics and imagery world. Term,

Section: Translation Theory and Practice - Intercultural Dialogue 
Dynamics of cross-cultural and inter-lingual translation. Pragmatic 
dimension of translation. Translation and social-cultural difficulties.  Status 
of the translation unit. Equivalence in translation. 'Presence' of translator in 
a translated text. Problems and mistakes in translation. Translation 
didactics. Literary translation and specialized translation. Literature 
translated in the European space. Automated machine translation. 
Audiovisual translation.
 
Section: e-Communication
E-communication in information society. Forms of e- communication. Sender 
vs. addressee in e-communication. Tools for e-communication [e-mail, chat 
(text, audio, video), the Internet, social nets, messages, blogs, etc.]. Code of 
conduct in e-communication. Electronic texts and documents. Semantics of 
programming languages. Electronic writing. Linearity and transgression: 
transgressive writing. The status of literature, SMS and digital poetry 
authors. Evolution of writing in semiotics. Evolutive writing and semiotics. 
Punctuation in electronic writing. Polyphony in e-communication. 
Terminology in e-communication.

Conference participation fee: 
- 200 lei MD for participants from the Republic of Moldova (includes 
agenda and publication of conference papers);
- 50 euro for foreign participants (includes the agenda and publication of 
conference papers);
- 60 euro for participants  in absentia (includes the agenda and 
publication of conference papers);
