University or Organization: University of Stuttgart
Department: Institute for Natural Language Processing
Job Location: Stuttgart, Germany
Web Address: http://www.ims.uni-stuttgart.de/
Job Rank: Assistant Professor

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics; Natural Language Processing

Description:

The Institute for Natural Language Processing in Faculty 5: Computer
Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the
University of Stuttgart is seeking to fill the position of an

Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessor; W1-level) of Computational Linguistics.

The position was established in connection with the Collaborative Research
Center (SFB) 732 'Incremental specification in context'.

Candidates should have a proven scientific record in the area of
Computational Linguistics, show potential for the acquisition of external
project funding, and be open for interdisciplinary collaborations with
Theoretical Linguistics as part of SFB 732.

In terms of teaching, the successful candidate will contribute to the
Institute's course offerings in Computational Linguistics, partially in
English. He or she should have profound knowledge in Computational
Linguistics (covering at least two of the levels of Phonetics/Phonology,
Morphology, Syntax, Semantics and Knowledge Representation), and be
familiar with several distinct methodological approaches in Natural
Language Processing.

In the research profile, a convincing positioning towards at least one of
the focus areas of current theoretical and applied research in
Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing is expected.

A special interest in the interface between Speech and Language Processing
('Spoken Language Processing') is desirable.

Appointments are subject to the terms and conditions of § 51
Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg (State law on universities in the
state of Baden-Württemberg) for 'Juniorprofessor' positions.

Applications should preferably be in electronic form and include the usual
documents (vita; copies of certificates; list of publications, taught
courses and past grant acquisition; statement of research interests) and
three relevant publications.

The University of Stuttgart wishes to increase the proportion of women in
science and is therefore particularly interested in applications from
women. Severely challenged people will be given preference if equally
qualified.

The University of Stuttgart has a Dual Career program to support the
appointed person's spouse. See http://www.uni-stuttgart.de/dual-career/
