Description:

Character of Duties:
The Division of English & Applied Linguistics seeks a tenure-track Linguistics 
Specialist to begin August 2011. 

The ideal candidate will: 1) Contribute to and teach a variety of undergraduate 
and graduate linguistics and applied linguistics courses as well as 
developmental and freshman composition classes; 2) Assist in building our 
Linguistics course offerings as needs are identified;  3) Assist with advances 
in student-learning outcome assessment in the English and Applied 
Linguistics Program;  5)  Maintain a continuous record of scholarly/ creative 
activity; and 6) Be willing to undergo training in order to teach a Distance 
Education course.  

The duties include:  1)  Teaching 12 credit hours per semester (faculty may 
apply for a one-course load reduction for research, instructional innovation, or 
service);  2)  Student advisement; and 3)  Division, college, and university 
service. 

Qualifications:
Required:  1)  Ph.D. in English, Linguistics, or a closely related field from an 
institution with US regional accreditation or foreign equivalent  by August 
2011 (ABDs welcome to apply, granted the doctorate is attained by the time 
employment begins);  2)  A record of scholarly publications and activities in 
the areas of interest and expertise;  3)  Teaching experience at the university 
level, with evidence of teaching ability/scholarship through student 
evaluations.

Desired:  Preference will be given to candidates with broad experiences in:  1)  
English phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics;  2) 
Psycholinguistics;  3) Second language acquisition; 4)  English 
developmental and freshman composition;  and 5)  Language assessment.

Salary Level:
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience relevant to 
this nine-month position.

retirement plan.
