Linguistic Field(s): Historical Linguistics; Syntax

Call Deadline: 20-Feb-2011

Meeting Description:

DiGS is an international forum for the presentation of research in diachronic and historical syntax from a generative perspective. It also features work using quantitative methods to track the time course of syntactic changes. DiGS meets alternately in the eastern and western hemispheres.

Call for Papers:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to be hosting the thirteenth meeting of DiGS, the Conference on Diachronic Generative Syntax, in early June of 2011. For the past twenty years, DiGS has been the leading international forum for the presentation of research on historical syntax from a generative perspective.

The DiGS 13 organizing committee invites papers that discuss any aspect of the historical grammar of languages. Especially encouraged are contributions to comparative syntax and to the study of syntactic change. The meeting will feature both plenary papers and a poster session.

The DiGS 13 conference will take place June 2-5, 2011.
Abstract submission deadline: February 20, 2011.
Notification of acceptance/rejection: March 31, 2011.

Submission Guidelines:

Abstract submissions are welcome for thirty-minute oral presentations, to be followed by ten minutes for questions and discussion. We especially invite abstract submissions for a poster session to be held at the meeting.

Authors should indicate in their submission whether they want their abstract to be considered only for oral presentation, only for the poster session or for either.

Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual and one joint abstract per author.

Funding from the NSF and other sources will support travel subventions of $150 - $200 for student presenters at both the main conference and the poster sessions. Application instructions for the subvention will be sent along with notification of abstract acceptance.

Instructions for submitting abstracts to our web-based reviewing system will be posted after the New Year.

DiGS13 will feature a workshop on the use of syntactically annotated corpora for grammatical and diachronic research. See session information.

We expect the conference to include plenary addresses by five invited speakers. The list of plenary speakers will be available shortly.
