Description:

UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences

MSc in Language Sciences, MRes Speech Language and Cognition

DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Four departmental scholarships of £2400 are available for students applying for
the MSc in Language Sciences, and one departmental scholarship of £500 is
available for students applying for the MRes in Speech Language and Cognition.

These MSc and MRes programmes are ideal for students who wish to deepen their
knowledge of one or more areas of the language and cognitive sciences prior to
registering for a research degree. They are also suitable as stand-alone
12-month Master degrees for individuals currently working in areas such as
education, speech and language therapy, audiology, and speech technology.

The MSc in Language Sciences is an umbrella degree that provides students with
an opportunity for the in-depth study of one or more areas of the Language
Sciences. Three specialisation strands are currently available: language
development, linguistics with neuroscience, and speech and hearing sciences.
Students take a set of mandatory modules and have the opportunity to specialise
in one specific area of the language sciences through the selection of core and
optional modules, and of their research project.

The MRes in Speech, Language and Cognition is an interdisciplinary degree in
which students plan their own course of study with the guidance of an advisor,
selecting from a range of courses across different UCL departments. The main
focus of the programme is the Research Project and Research Plan, in which
students work closely with a supervisor specializing in the student's chosen area.

Further information about each Programme is available at:

How to apply

All candidates holding an offer of admission to UCL for the relevant degree
programme by 1 June 2011 will be considered for these awards. It is therefore
strongly recommended that applications for admission to UCL are submitted as
early as possible, and certainly no later than four weeks before the 1 June 2011
scholarship deadline. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic
merit rather than according to financial need. Successful applicants will be
students with outstanding academic potential, who have achieved excellent
results in the qualifications already obtained. Please note that these
scholarships cannot be held in conjunction with other funding.

Further queries should be addressed to Mr Pete Buchanan: p.buchanan at ucl.ac.uk

Application Deadline: 01-Jun-2011
