Call Deadline: 21-Jan-2011
Meeting Description:
In this thematic session we would like to address topics of syntactic control into infinitive and gerundive clauses in English and other languages, including Polish. As two major minimalist approaches, i.e. Movement Theory of Control and Agree Theory of Control, have been in competition for a number of years now, we find it well-motivated to confront the predictions both theories make for complex sets of data from different languages. In doing so, we hope that we will bring closer the prospect of unifying various approaches to control. Among the issues that we would like to discuss are:
* Exhaustive vs. Partial Control
* Control shift
* Split Control
* Case transmission and case independence
* Control constructions with predicative adjectives
* Super-Equi constructions
* Adjunct control
* Control into nominals
We also hope that our session will not only contribute meaningfully to the ongoing research on control but also shed more light on those aspects of control in Polish which have not been fully explored so far.
Convener: Jacek Witko? (Adam Mickiewicz University, Pozna?, Poland)
