Meeting Description:

The conference will continue the series of  ICOME conferences, so far held at Rydzyna, Poland (1994), Helsinki, Finland (1997), Dublin, Ireland (1999), Vienna, Austria (2002), Naples, Italy (2005) and Cambridge, UK (2008). Like its predecessors, the conference will cover different aspects of the study of Middle English language and linguistics, textual studies and literature.

Plenary lectures will be delivered by:

Philip Durkin (Oxford English Dictionary): Some Neglected Aspects of Middle English Lexical Borrowing from (Anglo-)French.

Hans Sauer (University of Munich): Twin Formulae in Middle English (especially Caxton).

Liliana Sikorska (University of Poznan): 'Waiting for Barbarians': Conceptualizing Fear of the Other in Middle English.

Laura Wright (University of Cambridge): On Standard English as a Trade koiné. 

Call for Papers:

As announced in our First Circular (Call for Papers) of 10 August 2010 the Seventh International Conference on Middle English (ICOME 7) will be held in Lviv, Ukraine,   3-5 August  2011.The conference will continue the series of ICOME conferences started at Rydzyna,  Poland (1994) and followed by successful forums in Helsinki  (1997),  Dublin (1999), Vienna ( 2002),  Naples (2005) and Cambridge (2008). ICOME 7 will be hosted by the Department of English  at  Ivan Franko National University in Lviv, Ukraine. Like its predecessors, the conference will cover different aspects of the study of  Middle English language and linguistics, textual studies, and literature.
 
Papers:

Participants are invited to submit proposals for 20-minute presentations (to be followed by 10-minute discussions) on any topic within the abovementioned areas. Such proposals should be submitted in the form of 400-word abstracts and sent in .doc and .rtf format (preferably in Times 12 fonts)  to the organising committee by  31 January 2011 by e-mail to: icome7.lviv at gmail.com. Notice of acceptance will be sent by 31 March 2011. Abstracts of the accepted papers and plenary lectures will be printed into a booklet that will be distributed to participants, and will also be available on the conference website.

Registration and Conference Fee:

The registration will be open on the Conference website in early April 2011.The conference fee will be EUR 60, -. Further information about ways of payment will be available on the Conference website in April 2011. 

Venue and Accommodation:

ICOME7 will be hosted by the Department of English Philology of Ivan Franko National University in Lviv, 1 Universytetska St (Main Building) 79000 Lviv, Ukraine.             

The Conference sessions are planned in the conference rooms of the Dnister Hotel, just a short walk across the park from the University. Dnister boasts to be the most beautifully located hotel in Lviv opening a panoramic view of the Old City. It is our recommended accommodation. The detailed information concerning booking at Dnister Hotel at reduced Conference rates will be available at the Conference website shortly. The University Hotel rooms (20 min walking distance from the venue of the Conference) will also be available for booking.
