Meeting Description: 

This three-day interdisciplinary seminar is being organized by the 
Department of Linguistics, University of Mumbai and Academy of Political & 
Social Studies, Pune in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee year of the 
formation of the State of Maharashtra.The seminar is a step towards a 
greater understanding of the complex relationship between language & 
culture with modernity, nationalism, democracy & development. These 
issues will be discussed at this seminar, amongst others, under various sub-
themes such as language and social justice, language planning and social 
change, language movements, issues of linguistic and cultural development, 
language-culture and media, language-culture and development, etc. They 
can be of theoretical or analytical nature, or issues dealt with at the level of 
all-India perspective, or issues emerging from the experiences of various 
states, or a particular field of social life, or the inter-linkages.
