Meeting Description:

Bruin Linguists is proud to announce that the second Southern California Undergraduate Linguistics Conference (SCULC) will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at UCLA. SCULC represents the first effort of a UCLA-affiliated student group to host an academic conference primarily for linguistics undergraduate students from institutions on the West Coast. The conference is a forum for students of all backgrounds to present their research or projects and is a great opportunity to share knowledge and network with others in the linguistics community.

This year we are pleased to invite as keynote speaker Dr. Paul Frommer, communications professor at USC, who is notable for his contribution to the blockbuster hit Avatar as creator of the Na'vi Language. Another faculty member (or two) from UCLA will also be honoring us as keynote presenter. 

Call for Papers:

If you are interested in presenting your research, you must submit your abstract by Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 5 pm (PST). Abstracts should be no longer than 500 words (not including references) and can be on any topic related to linguistics, applied linguistics, or languages. Undergraduate research projects, individual study projects and term papers are all acceptable; papers may be works in progress. Please make all submissions in either PDF or .DOC(X) format. Students will have 20 minutes to present, with 5 minutes for Q&A following. Please indicate in your submission whether or not you will need any audio-visual equipment for your presentation.

You can submit your abstract as plaintext at http://bruinling.org/sculc/ or e-mail your abstract as an attachment to bling at bruinling.org. You will be notified about the status of your application mid to late March.
