Meeting Description: 

Abstracts are invited for presentations at the inaugural Language & Communication Centre (LCC) Roundtable on Academic Writing to be held from Thursday, 1 December 2011, to Friday, 2 December 2011. The conference theme is 'Issues of Academic Writing in Singapore and Beyond'. The Roundtable will focus on aspects of academic writing as seen through the lens of language pedagogy, discourse analysis, and corpus linguistics, among others, in diverse disciplines such as corporate communication, engineering, political science and English.  It has three main strands and three plenary speakers:

Conference Strands:
Strand 1: Writing Across the Curriculum
Strand 2: Writings in the Disciplines
Strand 3: Assessing Academic Writing

Plenary Speakers:
Vijay Bhatia (City University of Hong Kong)
Ken Hyland (University of Hong Kong)
Judy Parr (University of Auckland)

Guidelines for Abstract Submission:
Abstracts should be typed single-spaced, using a 12-point font. It should be about 250 words long, and contain no more than 2-3 key references if needed. Accompanying biodata of presenters should be no more than 50 words each.

Paper presentations are 15-20 minute lecture-style presentations followed by 10 minutes for questions and/or responses. Case studies and research-based studies are welcome.

Abstract Submission:
Abstracts should be submitted by email to Dr Alvin Leong (alvin.leong at ntu.edu.sg) by 22 July 2011. Notification of the acceptance/rejection of abstracts will be sent by 29 July 2011.

Abstracts will be blind-reviewed by at least two independent experts selected by the Roundtable steering committee.
