Meeting Description:

The 44th International Conference on Sino-Tibetan Languages & Linguistics will be held in Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, India from 7th Oct to 9th Oct 2011.  

The conference is hosted by the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, India.

Conference Participation:

As of this writing, 103 scholars from around the world have indicated their intent to participate in the conference.

Intent to Participate: 

If you are considering attending the conference, whether you plan to present a paper or not, please e-mail us at sinotibetan2k11@ yahoo.com and indicate your intent to participate by 15th August 2011. This will help us to determine how many participants to plan for. We intend to make a list of participants and paper titles available on the CIIL web site in advance of the conference.

You may also add or remove your name from the conference email list by mailing to our mail-id.

If you have already indicated your intent to participate, and would like to change your contact information, revise your paper title, or remove yourself from the participants list, please e-mail us at sinotibetan2k11@ yahoo.com.

Registration:

We anticipate a registration fee of US $50 (US $20 for students) and a registration deadline of August 30, 2011. Both the cost and the deadline are subject to change. There will be a separate charge for the conference banquet and other meals. We regret that we will be unable to accept late registrations. Please plan accordingly.

The registration fee is US $50 (US $20 for students). Payment may be made in one of three ways: Personal or bank check drawn on any bank in favour of Conference Secretary. Before you can register, you must indicate your intent to participate.

Please note that the registration fee does not cover meals. Information on meal costs will be provided in later circulars. 

Call for Papers:

Abstracts:

Papers are welcome on all aspects of linguistics in the Sino-Tibetan area. The deadline for abstracts is August 15, 2011.

While submitting the abstract, be sure to indicate your intent to participate. It will be easier for us to process your abstract if you have done so.

Abstract Format:  

Abstracts shall be limited to one page. Abstracts should be in English, or bilingual including English. At the top of the abstract please include the paper title, your name, institution, and email.

Abstract Submission: 

If possible, please send abstracts as email attachments to sinotibetan2k11 at yahoo.com. Pdf format is preferred. If pdf is not possible, Microsoft Word (.doc/docx) format is acceptable. Please embed the fonts in the word document.  The file name should include both 'icstll' and your last name, for example 'icstll44_sastry.pdf' or 'icstll44_sastry.doc/docx'. If submission in electronic form is not possible, abstracts may instead be sent by regular mail to

Conference Language:

The language of conference presentations will be English. If you are unable to present in English, please make arrangements for English-language handouts and/or interpretation into English.

Visas:

All non-Indian citizens who are attending the Conference need a visa to enter India. Please contact the Indian Consulate nearest to you for visa procedures. 

When you indicate your intent to participate in ICSTLL-44, you will be issued an official letter inviting you to the conference, which you can submit with your visa application.

Lodging:

Accommodation will be arranged in the International Guest House and the Guest House attached to the Central Institute of Indian Languages.  In addition, hotel accommodation will be secured if prior intimation is given to us.

Transportation:

The quickest and most comfortable way to reach Mysore is via Bangalore.

By Air:

The nearest international airport to Mysore is Bangalore (180 km). All the domestic airlines in the country operate their flights to Bangalore from all the major cities in the country. Most international airlines too have flights to Bangalore.

By Road:

Mysore is 139 km to the south west of Bangalore. The state highway that connects these two cities is very well maintained. Travelling from Bangalore to Mysore by road will take about 3 to 4 hrs depending on the traffic conditions. The Karnataka Road Transport Corporation has excellent bus service to Mysore. You must take a Vayu Vajra from the Airport to the Bangalore Bus stand from where, there are ordinary buses, semi-luxury buses and luxury buses operated by the Government of Karnataka. Corporations of other states and private tour operators have buses plying to Mysore as well.

If prior intimation is given to us, we can arrange for a taxi to pick you up at the airport.

By Train:

Mysore is connected with a number of trains to Bangalore. The superfast luxury train Shatabdi Express connects Mysore from Chennai/Bangalore. 

Weather in Mysore:

October to March is the best time to enjoy the beauty of Mysore. The weather at Mysore will be sunny and warm with little or no rain. It is during this time that you can also enjoy the Navaratri (Dasara) festival which is famous far and wide. This 10 day festival is celebrated in the month of October this year.

Meals:

The conference banquet will be held on Saturday evening, October 8, 2011. There will be a separate charge for attending the banquet. We also plan to provide dinners on other nights of the conference for a small fee. There will be a Conference lunch and light refreshments for the participants at all conference sessions, provided by the organisers. Breakfast will be available at your place of stay.
