University or Organization: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
Department: Department for German Language and Linguistics
Job Location: Berlin, Germany
Job Rank: Researcher

Specialty Areas: Psycholinguistics; Information Structure

Description:

We are seeking a part-time researcher (fixed-term till 06/2015) to work on
'Effects of linguistic and non-linguistic context information on the usage
of information-structural alternatives in sentence production and
comprehension'. This DFG-funded project is supervised by the Principal
Investigators Prof. Dr. Katharina Spalek and Prof. Dr. Isabell Wartenburger
and is part of the Collaborative Research Centre 632: Information Structure
(Sonderforschungsbereich 632: Informationsstruktur).

The candidate should have a master's degree (or equivalent) in Linguistics
or Psychology and a strong interest in research. A background in
experimental methods of language processing, in particular EEG, and data
analysis is a prerequisite. Knowledge of information structure and its
effects on language processing is desirable. The project compares effects
being caused by variation in information-structure with effects being
caused by manipulations of scenic (visual) context.

The candidate should further be proficient in English, and be committed to
contributing to the goals of the overall project.

Candidates are expected to pursue a doctoral degree at the
Humboldt-University Berlin within the integrated Graduate School of the
research centre. The topic of the thesis should be related to the grant.
Applicants interested in pursuing a PhD within the frame of the projects'
research questions (experimental approaches to information structure in
language comprehension and language production) are therefore especially
encouraged to apply.

The salary and social benefits are determined by the German pay scale for
state employees (Entgeltgruppe: 13 TV-Laender, Tarifgebiet Ost). The
Humboldt University Berlin is an equal opportunity employer.

Interested candidates are invited to send their applications by July 15,
including a CV with the names and contact details of two referees and
[links to] sample publications, preferably by email.
