University or Organization: Heinrich-Heine-University, Düsseldorf
Department: Linguistics
Job Location: Düsseldorf, Germany
Web Address: http://www.phil-fak.uni-duesseldorf.de/asw/
Job Rank: Assistant Professor

Specialty Areas: Semantics

Description:

The Heinrich-Heine-University, Düsseldorf, seeks to fill an Assistant
Professor position (W1 Juniorprofessur) in Semantics in the Department of
Linguistics, the Institute of Language and Information. The appointment is
intended to begin as soon as possible. Candidates should hold the Ph.D. or
its equivalent in linguistics (or a related field with focus on semantics)
by the starting date.

Duties include teaching, advising and maintaining an active research
program. Teaching involves courses at both the graduate (M.A.) and
undergraduate (B.A.) levels and comprises core courses in semantics as well
as courses that contribute to the semantics curriculum more broadly or
complement the department's current offerings, especially in the areas of
cognitive science. Candidates should therefore have the relevant teaching
and research experience.

It is also expected that the successful candidate will participate in the
planned DFG Cooperative Research Center SFB 991 'The Structures of
Representation in Language, Science and Cognition.' Experience in obtaining
external funding is highly desirable.

Formal requirements also include the relevant scientific accomplishments
and teaching experience, following §36 of the North Rhine-Westphalia
University statute.

To assure fullest consideration, applications should be received by March
23, 2011. Applications marked with the reference number 04 B 11-3.1 and
the usual materials (cover letter, CV, statements of research and teaching
interests, list of the most representative publications) should be sent to
the address below.

Do not submit originals, as they will not be returned to you and destroyed
once the selection process is completed.

The Department welcomes international applications; the appointed candidate
may offer courses in English or in German.

The Heinrich-Heine-University is an equal opportunity employer and
encourages applications from qualified women, minorities and handicapped
applicants (following SGB IX). Women will be given preference in case of
equal qualifications.

Part-time employment is possible, provided there are no compelling
employment reasons against it in particular cases.
