Summer School of Sociolinguistics 2011
University of Glasgow

Following on the success of the Sociolinguistics Summer School at the University of Edinburgh in 2009 and 2010, we would like to invite you to the third Summer School of Sociolinguistics at The University of Glasgow from 4th to 8th July 2011. This week-long Summer School for PhD level students will focus on hands-on workshops led by academics in the field, student conference style presentations/posters and roundtable discussions.

The School's speakers and themes are:

Dr Devyani Sharma - Ethnicity, Contact and Change
Dr Erez Levon - Perception and Identities in Interaction
Dr Lauren Hall Lew - Sociophonetics and Indexicality
Dr Daniel Johnson - Statisitical Analysis of Speech Data
Dr Jane Stuart Smith - Language and the Media 

Call for Papers:

A reminder to all prospective applicants for SSS 2011 that the paper submission deadline is Thursday, 10th March.

All prospective student participants are asked to submit a 500 word abstract for potential inclusion in presentations/posters. The abstract should be mailed to the address below, together with name, institution, and year of study: sociosummerschool2011 at gmail.com

The applicants will receive the notification of acceptance by 15th March 2011. 

Selection of student presentations will be on the basis of:

1. Their academic quality 
2. Potential benefit of the workshop for the participant
3. Fit with the themes of the summer school.
