Meeting Description:

The Department of Linguistics, in conjunction with the Indigenous Language Institute in Santa Fe and the Nanbé Pueblo Language Program, is hosting this year's 18th Annual Stabilizing Indigenous Languages Symposium (SILS).

The SILS conferences on revitalizing and teaching indigenous languages have been held annually since 1994, and this is the first time for it to be hosted by UNM. Past symposiums have featured a wide range of presentations, from raising awareness of the value of native languages, to developing and implementing community-based language maintenance, revitalization, and teaching programs, to developing indigenous language textbooks useful for children, and even to developing smart-phone applications in indigenous languages. 

The theme of this year's conference is 'Language and Community: Building Collaboration in Revitalization Work.' Our website is still under development, but if you visit it later this month at http://linggraduate.unm.edu/sils/ , it will contain information about the schedule and keynote speakers, along with a registration and payment form. 

Call for Papers:

We are accepting proposals for papers, posters, workshops, panels, and videos. 

Please submit abstracts by April 8, 2011, of no more than 500 words to 2011SILS at gmail.com
