Meeting Description:

On behalf of the Organizing Committee we are writing to announce the 4th Conference on Metaphor in Language and Thought (IVCMLP - IV Congresso sobre Metáfora na Linguagem e no Pensamento) to be held in Porto Alegre, Brazil, 26th - 28th October 2011.

Plenary Speakers:

Professor Daniel Casasanto - Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, NL
Professor Dirk Geeraerts - University of Leuven, BE
Professor Raymond W. Gibbs, Jr. - University of California, Santa Cruz, USA
Professor Zoltán Kövecses - Eötvös Loránd University, HU

The CMLP is an important event for the metaphor research community and the international Cognitive Linguistics community at large and will bring together researchers from different disciplines concerned with issues involving figurative language.

Call for Papers:

The conference is concerned with all aspects of Cognitive Linguistics, but, this year, it has a recurring theme of 'Metaphor: Culture and Nature'.

Abstracts for papers and posters are invited for submission in the general theme of the conference, dealing with all aspects of figurative language. Paper presentations will be given a 20-minute time slot with an additional 10 minutes for discussion. Posters will be allocated timetabled sessions, and will stay up for a day. Ongoing graduate research is also welcome and will be presented in a separate session.

An abstract of between 300 and 400 words (excluding references) should be submitted electronically to ivcmlp at ufrgs.br by April 15th, 2011 (e-mail subject: IVCML - submission of abstract). The abstract should contain the presentation title, and preference for paper, ongoing research or poster presentation session. Please state, where appropriate, research questions, approach, method, data, and (expected) results. Please DO NOT include information identifying the author(s) in the abstract document. Author(s) information including name(s), affiliation(s) and email address(es) should be detailed in the body of the email. All abstracts will be subject to peer review by an international scientific committee. A notification of acceptance will be sent to authors by June 15th 2011.

Presenters are invited to submit papers to be published in an edited volume. Works should be sent by August 30th, 2011. Accepted papers will be subject to peer-review.

contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple
administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company
operates such a program.
