Description:

At the University of Vienna (15 faculties, 3 centres, about 180 fields of
study, approx. 8.600 members of staff, approx. 85.000 students)  the
position of a

University Assistant (prae doc)
at the Department of English and American Studies

is vacant.

Identification number of advertisement: 1963

Research and teaching at the Department of English and American Studies
cover literary and cultural studies as well as linguistics. The department
employs more than sixty members. Presently more than 3500 students are
enrolled in its Bachelor, Masters, Diploma, PhD and Teacher Education
programmes.

Duration: 4 years

Degree of Employment: 30 hours/week

Areas of work:
Participation in research, administration and teaching in the area of
theoretical linguistics, in particular the corpus-based study of syntactic
alternations in English (and other Germanic languages) from a
functional-cognitive perspective.

Profile:
MA in (English) linguistics

-  Good knowledge of linguistic theory, in particular of functional and/or
cognitive approaches
-  Experience with corpus research; willingness to employ and develop
quantitative methods
-  Excellent knowledge of English, plus a good knowledge of at least one
other Germanic language
-  Willingness and ability to work in a team

Candidates are also welcome to submit their own PhD project in the area of
(English) functional linguistics.
